<div style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-60_VYP0Hw1s/VD-5JKIOWGI/AAAAAAAADuM/4s7HSPJKew0/s1600/word-find-chalkboard-pumpkin-diy_thumb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><br /></a> </div>
<br />
Its That time of the year...<br />Crisp cold air around....festivities in the air...homes being decorated..dinners being planned.<br />
Although i love the orange pumpkins...find them adorable when its fall!!but since now you can spray paint just about any color on a pumpkin we had to try simple black this year.<br />
This one i tried with my toddler who actually stuck these letters on!Try it with your kids and let us know how it goes....<br />
<br />
SO heres the how to...........<br />
Make a Chalkboard Word Find Pumpkin<br /><br />Supplies:<br /><br />pumpkin or (even a faux pumpkin would work)<br /><br />chalkboard paint<br /><br />stickers<br /><br />chalk<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-abUdHQSOsKk/VD-5IZKjjUI/AAAAAAAADuA/oKGUmleQKbc/s1600/chalkboard-pumpkin_thumb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-abUdHQSOsKk/VD-5IZKjjUI/AAAAAAAADuA/oKGUmleQKbc/s1600/chalkboard-pumpkin_thumb.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 1: Paint the pumpkin<br /><br />Paint the pumpkin with chalkboard paint.<br />I used two coats.<br />
Then prime the chalkboard paint with chalk
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Step 2: Draw circular lines on the pumpkin with chalk<br /><br />This is the guide for where your letters go.<br />If you get the lines too close….just erase the chalk lines and start again.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7QcLjRoGMAM/VD-5IKyJk2I/AAAAAAAADt4/HP2wy53G9ro/s1600/chalkboard-pumpkin-how-to_thumb.jpg" /></div>
<br />
Step 3: Decide what words you want to put in your word find<br /><br />I used:<br /><br />boo<br />spider<br />bat<br /><br />(okay….you get the picture)<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-60_VYP0Hw1s/VD-5JKIOWGI/AAAAAAAADuM/4s7HSPJKew0/s1600/word-find-chalkboard-pumpkin-diy_thumb.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-60_VYP0Hw1s/VD-5JKIOWGI/AAAAAAAADuM/4s7HSPJKew0/s1600/word-find-chalkboard-pumpkin-diy_thumb.jpg" /></a></div>
<br /><br />
Step 4: Line up the words<br /><br />Just place the words where you want them to go.<br />Here’s trick and treat.<br />Use the lines as your guide.<br />After all your words are placed….fill in the rest with extra letters.<br /><br />Then erase the chalk lines.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-A86h81VfZXY/VD-5IcAPquI/AAAAAAAADt8/Fu99HQZJTxQ/s1600/word-find-chalkboad-pumpkin-project_thumb1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-A86h81VfZXY/VD-5IcAPquI/AAAAAAAADt8/Fu99HQZJTxQ/s1600/word-find-chalkboad-pumpkin-project_thumb1.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
We had fun with letters this season!Learnt B...O...O!<br />
Am loving our letter pumpkin....kiddo learns a new letter each time we pass through the front porch!!<br />
<br />
Let us know how your pumpkins are coming along?

influenced the fashion landscape in West and Central Africa. These
textiles were
originally known as ‘Hollandais’, from the French word for ‘Dutch’.<br />
<br />
I am totally enthralled to see such shear beauty in design and pattern.The process of dyeing is similar to batik. To produce this material a wax-resistant dyeing technique is used. A
design is drawn onto the material with hot wax after which it is dipped
in the dye. The dye does not penetrate the wax.<br />
<br />
An additional benefit to the material prepared this way is that the
pattern is printed on both sides of the material making it more
versatile. <br />
<br />
Isnt the fabric just stunning!I also love the styling in this series....Tell us what you think??<br />

<span style="font-weight: normal;"></span>Made from recycled paper, rainbow pencils lets you create beautiful paper rainbows when you sharpen them.<br />
<div class="product-short-description">
<br /></div>
Rainbow Pencils function like regular wooden pencils, and are
the same size and weight, but they're not made from wood, they're made
from lots of layers of recycled waste paper. This means the shavings /
sharpenings look like rainbows.<br />
<br />
<b>Making Rainbows</b><br />
<span style="line-height: 1.3em;">You don’t need a special sharpener to make rainbows, but a sharp, good quality one will help you make better ones. To
improve your rainbows, you can try sharpening from the other end of the
pencil, using a better sharpener or applying a more constant force when
turning the pencil. Trying to make the perfect rainbow is all part of
the fun!</span><br />
<br />
<span style="line-height: 1.3em;">Does that sound like fun or what!!!</span>The Green Elephanthttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10604890846131998544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7938078922041631970.post-14340210598702078092014-05-23T11:27:00.000-07:002014-05-23T11:27:50.971-07:00Design speaks: 5 creative ways to use wallpaper<a href="http://www.athomeinlove.com/"><br /></a>
<br />
<div class="date-heart">
<span class="date-month"><br /></span><span class="date-day"></span>
</div>
I had never really worked with wallpaper before-ever. For awhile, I
thought it was just for old people, but that’s definitely not the case
anymore.There are so many modern wallpapers out there.<br />
I use them for customers walls all the time but I’m still too intimidated to try wallpapering a whole
wall myself. That
being said, I think I’d like to try dipping my toe into
wallpapering--but maybe on a smaller scale. So I’ve pulled together 5 creative ways to use wallpaper! All of these projects seem pretty managable.<br />
<br />
1) Create a stunning headboard<br />
For a complex headboard like this intricate patterns would work best.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OJa43uafUzc/U3-FS1f0mnI/AAAAAAAADd4/2wQMtuQz4F4/s1600/10waysheadboardlandscape.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OJa43uafUzc/U3-FS1f0mnI/AAAAAAAADd4/2wQMtuQz4F4/s1600/10waysheadboardlandscape.jpg" height="312" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
2)Beautify a drawer or side of a drawer<br />
Use wallpaper in a subtle manner...line the inside or just the sides of a dresser drawer.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UGWurtygwwc/U3-GY2mlqzI/AAAAAAAADeA/IHE0YBFvIvY/s1600/10waysdrawer.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UGWurtygwwc/U3-GY2mlqzI/AAAAAAAADeA/IHE0YBFvIvY/s1600/10waysdrawer.jpg" height="640" width="425" /></a></div>
<br />
3)Upgrade plain old glass vases<br />
<br />
Normal paper is too thin..wallpaper just does it..its the right thickness--waterproof for planters & vases.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hXv9y_1HbhI/U3-J4I2Y7rI/AAAAAAAADeM/zh2CuEoAIVc/s1600/da9aa7c12792844b_101923729_grande.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hXv9y_1HbhI/U3-J4I2Y7rI/AAAAAAAADeM/zh2CuEoAIVc/s1600/da9aa7c12792844b_101923729_grande.jpg" height="640" width="510" /></a></div>
<br />
4) Table topper
<br />
Make over a hand-me-down side table with
decoupage. Paint the table with two coats of metallic paint and a coat
of metallic glaze for extra shimmer. Let dry. Cut a scrap of <a data-ls-seen="1" href="http://www.bhg.com/home-improvement/walls/wallpapering/">wallpaper</a>
to fit the top. Coat the table with decoupage glue, position the paper,
and cover it with several layers of decoupage glue. (Allow each coat to
dry before applying the next.) Finish the top with a spray sealant.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NTkxq5TIajs/U3-RQValLmI/AAAAAAAADeg/tfeX42g0EV0/s1600/101375827.jpg.rendition.largest.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NTkxq5TIajs/U3-RQValLmI/AAAAAAAADeg/tfeX42g0EV0/s1600/101375827.jpg.rendition.largest.jpg" height="640" width="480" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
5)Makeover: A small wall or an entire room...try using bold patterns to spruce up your space.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Wallpapers now come in textured finishes tone on tone or bold modern patterns.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YjGPnMsQwaw/U3-RnznRRFI/AAAAAAAADeo/1hZS2eXAkpI/s1600/index.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-YjGPnMsQwaw/U3-RnznRRFI/AAAAAAAADeo/1hZS2eXAkpI/s1600/index.jpg" height="640" width="479" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<span class="userContent"></span>I absolutely love open porches and am hooked on to the idea of hanging beds.<br />
I have always known swings but hanging beds-a step further!<br />
<br />
We are in the process of building one ourselves but till i can show you the finished version-<br />
here is some inspiration!!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-np6HZ7YgGlw/U1qd-xE4LAI/AAAAAAAADcY/-D6vFSLZq-4/s1600/pallet-swing.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-np6HZ7YgGlw/U1qd-xE4LAI/AAAAAAAADcY/-D6vFSLZq-4/s1600/pallet-swing.jpg" height="426" width="640" /></a></div>
Reusing palette...hmmm easiest to pull off!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mRjbLmP7k-Y/U1qknZIQOzI/AAAAAAAADdA/ix3cJnqG_tY/s1600/6d128086569bb30c19be2a8aa34feeba.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-mRjbLmP7k-Y/U1qknZIQOzI/AAAAAAAADdA/ix3cJnqG_tY/s1600/6d128086569bb30c19be2a8aa34feeba.jpg" height="640" width="456" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wd6DqqffX-s/U1qeIfN0akI/AAAAAAAADcs/3pFM3d2KC24/s1600/Summer_Hanging_Beds_13_06_10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-wd6DqqffX-s/U1qeIfN0akI/AAAAAAAADcs/3pFM3d2KC24/s1600/Summer_Hanging_Beds_13_06_10.jpg" height="640" width="478" /> </a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Its almost summer-love the airiness that this look provides...</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nb-3CAD4FnQ/U1qeMj2dYCI/AAAAAAAADcw/H1MuACPVjCE/s1600/PB_SwingBed.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Nb-3CAD4FnQ/U1qeMj2dYCI/AAAAAAAADcw/H1MuACPVjCE/s1600/PB_SwingBed.jpg" height="574" width="640" /></a></div>
Since we have started building one for ourselves-this is what am going for...Am already drooling visualizing!!! with what mine will look like with all our fabrics<br />

</h4>
<div class="gallery-slide-dek">
This week at our studio we were all ramped up with patterns.<br />
We kept trying to print different patterns to come up with new designs.<br />
I had to share this with you guys..<br />
<br />
<i>me: lets try block printing ourselves(as we have new wooden blocks coming in)</i><br />
<i>kiddo: lets do that...and goes and brings his lego block to print from!!!</i><br />
<br />
<i> </i>Moral of the story--we can print from any no# of household items.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.marthastewart.com/sites/files/marthastewart.com/imagecache/wmax-330/ecl/msliving-hires/2012/07_july/in_house_cmyk/block_printing/02-clothesline-054-md108129_vert.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Pattern Play" border="0" class="gallery-slide-image" src="http://www.marthastewart.com/sites/files/marthastewart.com/imagecache/wmax-330/ecl/msliving-hires/2012/07_july/in_house_cmyk/block_printing/02-clothesline-054-md108129_vert.jpg" title="Pattern Play" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
These linen towels only look as though they were silk-screened;
their designs were really made by manipulating the following household
items.<br />
1. Overlapping triangular toy blocks.<br />
2. Triangular toy blocks.<br />
3. The bottom of a mini tart tin, the rim of a drinking glass, and a button attached to a wooden block.<br />
4. Rubber band wrapped around wooden block.<br />
5. Bottoms of hexagonal and circular jars and buttons glued to wooden blocks.<br />
6. Rope glued to a wooden plank.<br />
7. Straw star.<br />
8. Bottom of a plastic berry basket.<br />
9. House numbers screwed to a scrap of wood.<br />
10. Toy-animal block.<br />
11. Potato masher.<br />
12. Buttons glued to a scrap of wood.<br />
13. Woven wooden-bead trivet.<br />
14. Tart tin and button.<br />
15. Bottle stopper.<br />
16. Buttons.</div>

</div>
<div style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;">
</div>
<br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">I came across this blog and loved the concept of what <strong>Dishoom</strong> is doing.</span><br />
<strong><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Preserving memories! </span></strong><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><strong><br /></strong>
<strong>Catch a memory and bake it onto a plate...</strong></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><strong><br /></strong>
Dishoom is a Bombay Cafe in London. They have captured lots of wonderful stories from the original Cafes of Bombay and now are plating them up and sharing them in their cafes in London.<strong><br /></strong></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><strong><br /></strong>
Here's what they have to say:<strong><br /></strong></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">From the moment we arrive, we accumulate
our own layers of stories and experiences, remembered events and
remembered emotions. Together, they become our own personal narratives.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">But for something so integral, so basic
to who we are, memory feels so fleetingly ethereal. The fragrance of a
little sponge cake (perhaps Madeleine, perhaps Mawa), the rich salty
taste of butter melting on a bun dipped in hot chai, the sounds of a
particular street, the soft touch of a companion’s hand, the wistful
sweetness of a moment. The utterly unique moment is here, and then it’s
gone. And the only trace left behind of its existence is an imperfect
imprint on our minds.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">How can we preserve this memory? How can
we capture a feeling or a sensation, a poignant moment, before it fades
like the morning mist?</span></div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">But sooner or later, for all the love
that people have for them, the Irani Cafés may all be gone. Faded away,
unnoticed, in the rush.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">In our own small way, we thought we
could contribute to the capture of memory. We already pay homage to the
Irani Cafés through design and food, but we thought we could go further
and document and preserve actual recollections. We gathered stories from those who know
and love the Irani Cafés – guests at Dishoom, the owners of the
remaining cafés, others in Bombay and London.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">We then literally baked these stories onto eighty of our plates (at 850C).

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">This is our second post in the series "Treasure Trunk" featuring small businesses and our partners that carry treasures from around the world including some of our products!</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Today we feature "Terressentials" owned by James and Diana,life partners and designers. </span><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;">If anyone ever tells you chemicals are necessary to create skin care products, Terressentials proves them wrong. Each and every ingredient in their products is 100% certified organic and is an ingredient the USDA allows in food.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">After learning about their journey and looking at their lovely store you would want to hop in and take in just about everything. Its a feast for the eyes and food for the soul!</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">Here's a little something about their journey and their dazzling store in Frederick, MD.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">The Terressentials journey began 20 years ago</span><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"> with Diana's startling diagnosis of lymphatic cancer at age 29. Their intense search to assemble the pieces of the puzzle that would allow Diana the means to make a recovery from cancer and chemotherapy led them to discover the infestation of cancer-causing chemicals in their home, their foods and in their bodies. This unsettling discovery was the couple's break-through moment that illuminated the necessity of living a clean organic lifestyle. James and Diana's continued scrutiny into household and personal care product labels unearthed a tremendous, urgent need for completely natural, truly organic products to care for their bodies and was the catalyst that fueled the activist work of these original organic pioneers. </span><br />

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">James and Diana began handcrafting soothing and rich organic personal care products initially for their own use and word quickly spread about the organic authenticity and effectiveness of their delicious organic personal care creations. Over time, the explosive expansion of the internet exposed the dark misleading faux organic labeling practices rampant in the personal care marketplace and sparked a large demand from many organic-minded people for the Terressentials products, and fed the organic growth of the small company. Today, the Maryland-based company offers their own USDA certified organic handcrafted products to a worldwide audience via the Terressentials web site and through their two company-owned brick and mortar boutiques. </span><br />

<br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;">With their early formal training and careers in the arts and architecture, and their dedication to creating the highest quality certified organic handcrafted personal care products, it was a logical transition for James and Diana to choose to include an exciting array of distinctive organic gourmet chocolates and teas, and the brilliant artistic works of global artisans in their stores. A visit to a Terressentials store dazzles the eye and soothes the body, mind and soul with inspiring displays of beautiful fair trade and fair-made artisan crafts from the farthest corners of the world, and with evocative organic scents, sensations and flavors. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Georgia, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span>

<span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">We here @ TGE come across artisans creating fascinating products day after day. So when i came across this book i had to share it with you.</span><br />
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">For generations, the women of the Meena tribe in India's Rajasthan
state have been decorating the walls and floors of their homes with a
stunning form of public art both graphic and decorative known as Mandana
painting, using a white paste made of rice and milk to paint intricate
motifs on these mud-brown mud surfaces. This remarkable craft is passed
down from mother to daughter, and the drawings themselves often depict
maternal motifs of birds and animals with their young.</span><br />
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">The book itself is a piece of art, printed on thick brown
craft-paper that mirrors the mud walls of Meena homes and silk-screened
by hand in Tara Books' fair-trade workshop in Chennai. Each image in
every book is thus an original print, and the pages themselves emit the
rich earthy smell of artisan craft.</span><br />

<i><br /></i>
<i> <span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">There is something very moving about the way these humble
women are driven to be creative, in a lived, everyday sense. It gives us
much to reflect on what we take for granted as the provenance of art:
for one, their painting is not the unique creation of any single
individual but a tradition grown in a community. The work is not
produced for a market, but for themselves, as well as the community at
large. And viewed in the context of their lives, art doesn't seem to be a
luxury that has to be bought by opportunities and free time. --Gita Wolf </span></i><span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">
</span><br />
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Between the breathtaking silkscreens you'll find vibrant full-color
photographs that offer a glimpse of the lives of these extraordinary
Meena artists and contextualize the Mandana artwork in its place in the
local community, revealing a kind of authenticity foreign to our culture
of conjoined art and commerce. <a href="https://www.amazon.com/dp/8186211683/ref=as_li_ss_til?tag=braipick-20&camp=213381&creative=390973&linkCode=as4&creativeASIN=8186211683&adid=1XF64C0QJYZTRD4Y5QDZ&" target="_blank"><i>Nurturing Walls</i></a> sets ajar the door to a fascinating world where beauty, community, and tradition live in their purest, most inspired form.

<span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Today we are featuring 'The Peaceable Kingdom' owned by Joan and Phillip Ritchie, originally two school teachers and now owners of this eclectic store. I distinctly remember the warm smiles they wore each time i bumped into them at New York International Gift Show. Considering the elaborate walks down several never ending isles and physically exhausting nature of these shows, the humble smiles just went to show the bubbliness of the Rithchie's and how much they enjoyed being there, browsing and picking unique items for their cool shop located at Providence, Rochester. </span><br />
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Here's a little about these lovely owners and their store where you can surely find something unique to gift this holiday season!</span><br />

<span style="background-color: white;"><span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Since 1980, the Ritchie family has been collecting, travelling and sharing folk art from around the world. Joan and Phil Ritchie were two school teachers who travelled every summer and collected tribal textiles, masks, statuary and unusual, functional tools to make these things. They decided to open a shop to bring these treasures to others. The Peaceable Kingdom (named for the American folk artist Edward Hicks'j work) is a place where stories come aline--where art created within cultural traditions transports the viewer to exotic lands. Talk to a Peruvian curandero (folk healer) by looking into a retablo depicting a healing ceremony. Visit a Central Asian woman by admiring the sosani (embroidery) she created to decorate her yurt. Hear the Sepik River ancestral myth carved into a story boat from Papua, New Guinea. These and other treasures will delight as they open the world for you.</span></span><br />

They specialize in tie n dye processes and make a variety of products ranging from s</span><span style="background-color: white;">carves, sarong, stoles and bags to </span><span style="background-color: white;">cushion covers, pillow covers, quilts, bed covers, table covers, runners and table napkins. R.B Farbrics has come a long way from working as a small block printing unit to partnering with the likes of Anokhi, AIACA and many more. It </span><span style="background-color: white;">now provides livelihood to 25 men and women in it's region. The best part - for the first time ever, we're introducing the actual artisans who craft these beautiful tie n die cushions and curtains! </span></span><br />

At the time, as a kid, it wasn't really a city of my dreams - in fact i always found it dirty and hot and cribbed about all the things that were wrong with it. I'd rather go visit a city that had the Essel World (India's Disney Land in Mumbai) or Appu ghar in Delhi, but never to the oh! so <i>boring</i> palaces and museums of Jaipur. The funny part, that same visit now feels like a surreal dream sitting here in the US even though i so badly want to just wander and explore the beautiful city all over again with this new found passion! </span><span style="color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Mom's family moved out of the city almost a decade ago, about time when i had just started my career as an architect and sigh! how i regret not having taken advantage of the several past visits back then! </span><br />

<span style="color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Well, one of the UNESCO's award winning museums for 'Cultural Preservation', amongst so many others that i missed visiting in Jaipur is the </span><a href="http://www.anokhi.com/museum/home.html" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;" target="_blank">Anokhi Museum of Hand Printing</a><span style="color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">. This place is very close to my heart because of the history associated with it, especially since the inception of The Green Elephant. Anokhi is an initiative of founder director Rachel Bracken-Singh and husband Pritam Singh. For the right use of this palace after renovation (by Pritam's father John Singh) back in 1989, several concepts were reviewed and a plan for developing it as a museum for block printing was put together. This museum is now dedicated for the preservation, collection and interpretation of the endangered craft of block printing. It definitely seems to have contributed a great deal in raising the appreciation of this fragile but living art form in the eyes of the world since it's inception. </span><a href="http://www.anokhi.com/museum/home.html" style="font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;" target="_blank">The Anokhi Museum</a><span style="color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"> hosts a permanent exhibit, a temporary gallery along with several educational programs and workshops that enable visitors to experience the craft of block printing hands on.</span><span style="color: #666666; font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />

Here's a peek at his design, inspired by a trip to Africa.</span></span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><b><i>What is hand tufting?</i></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Hand tufting is an art that requires a high level of skill. To create a hand-tufted rug, the design is first transferred to a primary backing. The craftsmen use the design as a guide to handgun the location of each colored tuft. A secondary backing is added to glue the tufts in place before the top loops are sheared to create the final pile height.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;"><b><i>What's so different about it?</i></b></span></div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666; font-family: 'Trebuchet MS', sans-serif;">Hand tufting offers the ability to make carpets and rugs in any shape, size, and design. Large pieces can be made without seams and an infinite variety of textures and colors can be added to create a truly unique piece of art for the floor.</span></div>

I am delighted to present before you - <span style="color: purple;">Coppy Cat! </span><br />
<div class="contentdiv">
Started by Sneha Arora, a design graduate from NIFT, Coppy Cat is a
product label launched for the love of story telling through design.
With every great design comes a greater inspiration.<br />
They say nothing is original. In this world full of copy cats who
love stealing other’s work to call it their own, here comes one who may
not be original but 100% authentic. <br />
Inspired by everyday things and people around us, Coppy cat creates
products that narrate their stories. </div>
<br />
Here's sharing with you a casual rendezvous with Sneha.I will also let the pictures do the talking.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">and a doodle board for inspiration</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
<span style="color: purple;">1.Why the name - Coppy cat(what is behind the name??) </span>: <br />
Truthfully
.. i am very fond of stationary.. while in college i had wanted to
design notebooks... so had come up with the name copy cat.. 'copy' being
the colloquial term for notebooks in our country.. so years later when i
thought of starting products.. the Name stayed.... and also the fact that i
design from INSPIRATION...as they say nothing in this world is
original...
<span style="font-family: 'lucida grande',tahoma,verdana,arial,sans-serif; line-height: 14px; text-align: left;">We admire a lot of people and their work, and honor them in our des</span><span style="display: inline; font-family: 'lucida grande',tahoma,verdana,arial,sans-serif; line-height: 14px; text-align: left;">igns by using the way their work makes us feel to create our own….. </span></div>
<div style="color: purple;">
2. Please give us a brief bio, where are you from and how did you start work in this field?:</div>
<div style="color: black;">
I am basically born and brought
up in Kolkata.. i studied Fashion at NIFT after which i moved to
Bangalore for 3 years to work with a corporate retail firm, when one
fine day.. i decided that retail was not my calling.. and quit my job
and came back home to do something that i could relate to better I
then started my own line of apparel..... one month into the job my
tailor ran away and it took me a while to look for another one... and so
as i like to put it... 'while the tailor was away.. the cat came to
play'.. in that break i launched my product line....'Coppy Cat'</div>
<div style="color: black;">
<span style="color: purple;">3. Tell us more about your work, if you do something else professionally besides the product design.- </span>Professionally under my apparel Label i design Dresses for women.</div>
<div style="color: black;">
<span style="color: purple;">4.How do you promote your work-do you sell anywhere outside of India?</span> We
promote our work basically through facebook.... we Ship products
anywhere across the globe.... we would start selling through some online
sites in UK and US soon...... and definitely some nice Bloggers like
you help us share our work with the world... :)</div>
<div style="color: black;">
<div style="color: purple;">
5.Do you customize your work? </div>
We Do customize but only for bulk orders..</div>
<div style="color: black;">
<span style="color: purple;">6. How do you bridge the gap between the business side of designing?</span><br />
A Million Dollar Question.... Seriously speaking Still learning how to
do Business... being designers we get so lost in the design that selling
takes a secondary position... have learnt a lot of things in these few
months ... waiting to learn more till i can completely balance both.</div>
<div style="color: black;">
<span style="color: purple;">7. Have you experimented with Eco-friendly materials yet? </span><br />
Well
we have been Recycling materials to make our products.. like the frame
artworks are printed on recycled old book paper which otherwise would get
thrown away... the lamps are made from recycled alcohol bottles for the
hangover to stay with you forever..;)... the notebook covers are made
from recycled board... the cushions are made from recycled jute and
dusters.... our tags are made from recycled old tea packaging. We are
trying to be as Eco friendly as possible.<br />
<br />

<br />
<br /></div>
<div style="color: black;">
<span style="color: purple;">8. What do you do when you are not designing? </span><br />
Well
when i am not designing either i am running around getting things done ,
or i am glued to the computer approaching people and learning new
things... of lately haven't got time for leisure at all.... its almost
been all work and no play..... but i am sure it hasn't made a dull
cat..:p<br />
<br />
The apparel line speaks for itself!Beautiful summer collection! <br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;">Sometimes the solutions are so simple and sitting right behind us but somehow it just takes ages to realize! Luckily, for Liz, the calling came soon after graduation though in the form of a disguise. This is another story of a person who followed the heart and did what felt right and not what was right in the eyes of society. Having had a degree in journalism and communications, she initially set off to support a youth organisation in Uganda with their communications, donor relations and newsletter needs. During her stay in Uganda, Liz came across a community called 'Cornerstone'. She found a group of incredibly dedicated and committed women in this community who were struggling to find work in order to finance their education. The commitment of these women towards education, love for each other, for reconciliation and the passion to lead their country impressed Liz tremendously! And just like that 'Sseko' was born.</span></span><br /><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif; line-height: 18px;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #444444;"><br /></span></span><br />

<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;">How could they work and study at the same time? Well, the Ugandan school system is designed with a nine month gap between secondary school and university. These nine months are intended to allow time for students to earn money for tuition before continuing on to university. However, in an impoverished and male dominated society, many of these young women struggle to find fair work during this time.</span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">
<span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-family: Georgia, 'Times New Roman', serif;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color: #666666;">Sseko Designs hires recent secondary school graduates for this nine month period to live and work together, while earning money that will go directly towards their university education. These women will not make sandals forever. They will go on to be doctors, lawyers, politicians, writers and teachers that will bring change and unification to a country divided and ravished by a 22 year-long war.</span></span></div>
